The mission is to restore our ocean by decarbonising shipping. We build zero-emission unmanned autonomous cargo submarines capable of cleaning up the ocean, collecting ocean data while delivering cargo. Restoring our ocean is our personal mission and with the world's best team involved, we believe we can disrupt the traditional shipping industry through first principle engineering, innovative production techniques, and a scrappy start-up approach to problem-solving.

You’ll be at the forefront of underwater transport systems & actively contributing to our planet directly through your work at Oceanways. Being involved in disruptive startups like Oceanways at this early stage is the most thrilling job in the world, and it also happens to be the clearest path to creating an impact on the planet.

The Role

You will work with the core engineering & commercial teams to quantify potential Life Cycle Emissions savings from our zero-emission submarines and the economic impact of Oceanways.

You will present your conclusions to the commercial lead and help the engineering & commercial teams make informed decisions to decarbonise the supply chain and create value propositions for our customers. On successful completion of the first one-month mini-project, we should be able to extend your contract for two more months or hire you for a permanent role.

Core responsibilities

• Define a framework for emissions measurement including impact on the economy
• Measure LCA of the submarine build & operations and create emission scenarios for planned routes, comparisons with competitive transport systems
• Quantify potential lifecycle emissions savings from using Oceanways. This should include all upstream and operational emissions, splitting these out, over the lifetime of the equipment/vessel/infrastructure.
• Forecast the impact for ten years with the commercial strategy to capture any changes in emissions over the lifetime of Oceanways. The calculations should include all greenhouses gases (e.g CO2, CH4, N2O etc.) and a summary CO2e (CO2 equivalent) value should be calculated using the conversion
• Create a comparative matrix with competitive solutions balancing out the economics of scale
• Quantify potential economic impacts in the future due to Oceanways and forecast the impact for ten years with the commercial strategy
• Quantify the impact of Microplastics cleanup and ocean restoration across the lifetime of the submarines on a per route basis
